OUR HISTORY

1950's
During the 1950s, the club had many well-known local players who, like the present side, had vast experience.
Notable players included Terry Hodgins, Colin Thomas, Doug James, Fred Povey, Steve Hornby, Tucker Brown, plus many more.
In the 1950s, the club excelled, reaching the 4th round of the Mon Senior Cup, which included Welsh League clubs.
Mardy once led Pontllanfraith 3-2 in a replay, but with three minutes left, Tucker Brown accidentally scored an own goal.

Mardy eventually lost in the second replay.
1980's
The 1980s were prosperous years for the club, with many local youngsters joining, such as Anthony Ellaway, Gary Hicks, and Brian Jones.
The decade saw the arrival of Roy Wedlock, who served as manager, chairman, and is still an active member of the club, providing great support to Macky Skinner.
The 1982-83 season saw the club win the Gwent Central Second Division, captained by Brian Bates.
The team included players like Phil Jones (Bonehead) at centre half, Gary Mylum, Harold Vaughan, Steve Cantle, Dykie Powell, Gary Davies, Steve Wilks, John Dunston, Mike Brimble, Phil Jones (the farmer), Gary Hicks, Leon Thomas, and Seaton Stephens, who was named Player of the Year for the League.
In 1987, the club won the Langdon Cup, defeating Panteg with goals from Leon Thomas (3) and Robbie Whistance.
The side was captained by Gary Hicks. Other players included Steve Thomas, Anthony Goggin, Steve Richards, Bob Hemmings, Ian Williams, Morris Phillips, and many others.

1990's
During the 1990s, Mardy managed to sign several experienced players under the new management of Philip Hemmings.
The club brought in players such as Steve Indge, John Williams, Mark Heffernan, Daryl Williams, Andrew Ellaway, Jeff Hayden (from the Thursdays), Julian Frost (from Gilwern), and Mark Winstanley (from Llanarth).
These signings joined an already strong squad that included prolific scorers and standout players like Anthony Ellaway, Wyn Evans, Paul Hemmings, Mark Williams, Gavin Butler, and Chris Skinner.
Mardy became a force to be reckoned with, winning the Gwent Central League Division 1 in 1993/94, which earned automatic promotion to the Gwent County League Division 3.
In the same season, the Second Team, managed by Mark Lewis, won both their League and Cup, making it a memorable double for the club.
In their first season in the County League, the First Team finished 4th. In 1995/96, they finished 3rd and reached the semi-final of the Gwent Amateur Cup, narrowly losing to Monmouth Town after extra time.
The 1996/97 season (last season) was another highlight, as the club clinched the 3rd Division title by a comfortable 6-point margin and secured promotion to the Gwent County 2nd Division.
For this campaign, Mardy added new signings including Nicky Jones, Martin Reynolds, and Darren Ball (from Llanfoist). The team also relied on the experience of Kyle Holmes, Mike Sage, and Gary Barrell for the final promotion push.
The season ended with a successful tour of Ireland, where links were forged with Villa United from Cork for future exchange visits.
